Last year marked a century since the publication in Russian of the first edition of Pashukanis’s The General Theory of Law and Marxism. This dossier is a tribute to him and to his thought. Pashukanis’s thought, however, remains relatively little known in our milieu—by which we mean Latin America as a whole, with the exception of Brazil. Even the only two existing Spanish translations of his General Theory are not easily accessible in print. This lack of familiarity with Pashukanis’s thought may be due to the limited development of the Marxist critique of law in our region, combined with the structuralist (and later post-structuralist) orientation that tended to dominate this field of critical thought among us. In this dossier of Bajo el Volcán, we bring together a series of articles that recover some important aspects of his critique of law or that attempt, inspired by it, to analyze new problems. The dossier includes articles by authors of different origins (Brazilian, Argentine, Mexican) and diverse perspectives (derivationist, structuralist), with the aim of assembling a set of significant and varied contributions on his thought.
