Abstract

We consider that in Postone’s work there is a critique of the fetishism of the concrete, as a double critique. A critique that cuts both through the most deeply rooted presuppositions of traditional Marxism and the new postulates of anti-capitalism that emerged from the sixties. Under these assumptions, in this article we propose to analyze Postone’s contributions to the criticism of the fetishism of the concrete through: 1) the criticism of the return to nature and community in social movements; 2) the utopia of labour in traditional Marxism; and finally, 3) the objective power of social emancipation in the growing contradiction between material wealth and value.
