This paper seeks to demonstrate from the process of commodity production that categories like concrete labour and use value do not imply the existence of any transhistorical human nature or ontological basis. This is with the aim of overcoming what could be understood as the ontological basis of the concrete dimension of capitalist society and reinterpreting it as historically specific, which has important implications in understanding the nature of labour and how we conceive the fight against capital.
