This article recovers the conception held by three currents of thought situated inside Labour Sociology regarding the category of labour: the French regulation school, as well as the academics Juan José Castillo (Spain) and Enrique de la Garza Toledo (Mexico). It is held that these three currents sustain a tranhistoric and ontologized view of labour. Also, three currents inside marxism are presented, which put an eye on the inequalities of capitalist labour, creating a Political Economy of Labour. At last, the category of work is reconstructed from Critical Theory, by presenting it as an expression of class antagonism.
