This paper argues that 1968 should be seen as a manifestation of the crisis of abstract labour. Abstract labour and the fetishized forms it generates had dominated class struggle before that date. From 1968 onwards a new constellation of struggles emerged, directed not only against capital but against labour, and characterized by a different logic.
