Three reasons explain the renewed interest in the founders of Latin American structuralism linked to economic and social development. The first is a broader perspective that distances us from the minor bustle of the 1950s and 1960s and helps us distinguish the important from the forgettable and the fortuitous from the persistent. The second is the emergence of new paradigms that seek both to explain and to guide public policy on growth and development in the regional contingencies that have taken shape since the 1970s.
