Twenty-five years of Bajo el Volcán: The relevance of critical thought and the struggles for emancipation

Abstract

Twenty-five years ago, the first issue of our journal appeared in a very particular historical context. The twentieth century was coming to a close with the end of real socialism and without the world having managed to transform itself; pessimism prevailed regarding the validity and possibilities of both critical thought and the struggles for the radical transformation of society. Twenty-five years after the first issue of Bajo el Volcán, the critique of capitalism continues, as do the multiple struggles of resistance.
