Abstract

In this article, we explore Lukács and what we might call his sociology of art. For him, artists must create works that reflect and respond to the historical and social reality in which they find themselves, but the economic foundation influences themes and representations, eventually restricting creative freedom. However, realist art can be a tool for artistic education. In turn, art, as a reflection of society, plays a crucial role in cultural expression and the construction of individual and collective identity, since artists do not create in a vacuum; rather, their work is influenced and mediated by the social and cultural reality in which they are immersed. Therefore, Lukács invites us to break with the structures of power and domination that characterize capitalist society, and this is what we will attempt to demonstrate here.
