This book compiles eight essays written between 1992 and 2016 and published in various volumes, including the German journal Exit!. Originally written in German, they were translated into French and published by Crise & Critique, a publisher whose editorial, discursive, and theoretical work focuses on the critique of value-dissociation. This tradition, initially called value critique, began to take shape in the 1980s through extra-academic publication in self-managed journals, such as the one that would later be named Krisis. Value critique is a critique of the fetishistic structure of capitalism. It accounts for the directionality of the web of capitalist socialization derived from its tendencies—objective and contradictory—linked to the dynamics of value and abstract labor, which point to the non-emancipatory collapse of capitalism.
