This book narrates, from the experience and voice of the Triqui women belonging to the Autonomous Municipality of San Juan Copala, the extreme violence inflicted on the families who sustained this political project, and very particularly on women—a violence that involved murders, disappearances, rapes, looting of homes and forced displacement, among other things. Despite the Triqui women’s efforts to denounce to society what they were living through at the time, these events were made invisible and were poorly documented and explained by the press. Even for those who at the time took an interest and tried to follow in the media what was happening with the autonomous municipality, it was very difficult to understand what was going on and to grasp the degree of violence these women and their families were experiencing.
