The notion of the correct line is deeply embedded in the Marxist tradition. It is inherent in Engels’ understanding of Marxism as ‘scientific’, by which Engels understood that Marxism gives us correct knowledge of an objective process. Marxism is scientific, but not in this realist, positivist sense. For Marx, science is rather critique of the fetishised forms of existence of social relations. Science, in this sense, is the negation of untruth, but not the discovery of truth. Certainty is on the side of domination. For us the only certainty is the certainty of our rejection, of our negation.
