This work is the result of a series of reflections prompted by the graduate seminar “Zapatismo and Critical Thought,” taken at the Universidad Nacional del Sur in October 2015. Its aim is to offer some comments—in a personal register based on the author’s militant experience—that focus on the elements that the emergence and subsequent development of the Zapatista movement in Chiapas, Mexico, has made it possible to rethink within the left-wing tradition that seeks the emancipation of human beings from the domination of others and “that struggles for work, land, housing, food, health, education, independence, freedom, democracy, justice and peace” (First Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, 1994).
