The complexity of social phenomena demands, for their study, a detachment from single formulas and causal relations, from lines of continuity without bifurcations and from rudimentary conclusions—all the more so when they concern the intersection of three variables, each of which, taken separately, already constitutes an intricate path made up of significant and changing contextual particularities. This is by no means a simple challenge, and it is fully taken on by the compilers and contributing authors of Juventud, trabajo y narcotráfico. Inserción laboral de los jóvenes en organizaciones delincuenciales, who accomplish the arduous task of reflecting on the relations between the multiple modes of youth existence and the labor field, which presents itself as a life option within the framework of the drug-trafficking economy in different regions of Mexico.
