Proudhon is recognized for his early critique of property and exploitation. However, from a careful reading of his work it shows that he developed an important theory of power. That is why this article aims to evidence the author’s contributions and centrality in the anarchist theorization of power through four moments. First: acceptance and development of his theory in later anarchism; second: exceptionality of Bakunin’s theory; third: affinity between Proudhon and Foucault; and fourth: Proudhon’s contributions for the debates on pluralistic, transversal and anticapitalistic struggles which coincide with anarchism in that there are conceptions of power that do not necessarily dominate.
