Marxism and temporalities: Moishe Postone in the contemporary reconstruction of Critical Theory

Moishe Postone’s contribution to the reconstitution of critical theory has been unfolded in a twofold plane: on one hand, as a critique of positive, transhistorical and workerist readings of late Marx, and on other hand, as a conceptualization of historical temporality in the frame of a dialectic between abstract time and concrete time. This second aspect has been lesser studied in the readings of Postonian work and it can be explained, this is the claim to be developed, by a difficulty of Postonian approach still in debt with Hegelian temporality. This article re-interpret Postone’s theoretical insights regarding capitalist temporality within the project of a reconstruction of critical theory as a historical-conceptual analysis of temporalities.
