The book under review is a significant contribution to knowledge of the recent history of Guatemala, in two senses. First, as political memory, since it offers elements for the necessary political debates on the meaning of the revolutionary defeat of 1978-1982, especially for the institutional and social lefts in all their diversity, which since then have remained dispersed, almost existential, and without a clear political direction to define a common, grassroots and democratic future through concrete and well-defined strategies.
