Through forgetting, the capitalist system makes human beings look toward the model of well-being that suits the market. Not remembering who one is, where one comes from, whose heir one is, enables uprooting, enables forgetting and channels desire toward the horizons of progress imposed and spread by the capitalist system. In reality, however, nothing is forgotten: memory remains, awaiting its moment—the moment of crisis of the promises of development—when, faced with emptiness and falsehood, the subject will at last cry out, will at last look for answers and find them in the memories of their history. Memory will clear their gaze, and the progressivist fantasy will then become clear. Thus the subject of struggle, overcoming the pain of the reality they discover, will create their own alternatives—with difficulty, because the path is under constant construction, constant doubt and constant questioning—but nonetheless moves forward.
