The study of social struggles is relevant because it makes it possible to rescue the history of resistance from oblivion and, in a sense, brings the experiences of our struggles into the present. In this regard, the collective book Movimientos sociales en un ambiente revolucionario, coordinated by Coralia Gutiérrez Álvarez, is especially important: it deals with the efforts of women and men in a strategic region of the country —Puebla, Tlaxcala and part of Veracruz— in a time of acute conflict, from the late nineteenth century to the early 1930s, a period marked by the centrality of the Mexican Revolution.
