Totality and reification in the logic of the social: A reading of Marx’s Grundrisse

I intend to suggest an interpretation of Marx’s Grundrisse (1857-58) centered in the constitution of capital as the subject of social totality. As I will try to show, Marxian work should not be rendered as a limited contribution to “economic thinking”, but as a reconstruction of the capitalist forms of social bonding. Under the logic of capital, social universality develops an abstract dynamic of its own, which is independent of its subjects. Marxian critique of capitalism is, then, mainly a critique of the reified social totality.
