Abstract

Introduction to issue 18 of Bajo el Volcán. The documents section offers two texts for the debate on updating the concept of “revolution”: Gustavo Esteva’s interview with Teodor Shanin, which invites us to rethink our certainties about social transformation in the context of globalization, and the exchange of letters between Michael Hardt and John Holloway. The issue also includes works on theoretical pluralism in the social sciences, Maya Chuj spirituality, totality and reification in Marx, the authoritarian regime in Mexico, peasants and class, clandestine maquila work in Puebla, and three book reviews.
