The article critically reflects on the various “battles for memory” waged in Guatemala’s public space over its recent past, whether as practices of searching for the truth or of denial, concealment and distortion of that past, which prevent a critical social appropriation of its contemporary history as a condition for building a truly inclusive project of State and society.
