Abstract

The expression of resistance headed by the Popular Assembly of the People of Oaxaca (Asamblea Popular de los Pueblos de Oaxaca, APPO) is interpreted as a result of the crisis of governmental domination and the decomposition of the Mexican political regime, and as a product of a particular history of misunderstandings between authoritarian, excluding and racist elites and impoverished majorities who become conscious of the accumulated affronts and opt for insurrection. Regardless of the repression it has experienced, the movement of Oaxaca is considered part of the present struggles for the emancipation from capitalist oppression and great importance is given to its proposal of recovering politics as dialogue and agreement in the sphere of the Assembly, a contribution that implies an opportunity for the participation of sectors who have been excluded in decision-making.
