Abstract

The great virtue of the Sixth Declaration, in keeping with the Zapatista method, is openness: the opening of a debate and of a political process. Whether these will be historic, that is, transcendent, will depend on men and women and their circumstances, on wills and structures. The Sixth literally refers to a “left alternative” as a synonym for “anti-capitalist” and “anti-neoliberal”, as an option “for justice, democracy and freedom”. My reflection focuses on this broad formulation, which begins a process of collective definition, in order to contribute to the dialogue to which the Zapatistas invite us.
