Over the last two decades, significant changes have taken place in Latin America’s social and economic policies, originating in neoliberal adjustment programs and structural reforms that dismantled the welfare state and deepened inequality and poverty in our countries. During this period, the State ceded ground to the major market actors. The article examines the candidacy of Andrés Manuel López Obrador in this context.
