The author critically reviews two approaches to the study of the cultural history of the Mexican peasantry in relation to his own case study. Both perspectives are important for understanding how subjectivities are constructed in the post revolutionary period. The review highlights the political implications of each one of these approaches in order to grasp the connections between the past and the neoliberal present.
