This book brings together various reflections and approaches on the right to autonomy and self-determination of Indigenous peoples. Focusing on the Mexican case, it offers a broad view from each of the actors involved in the discussion—Indigenous organizations, Indigenous peoples and the government—as well as the various academic and social positions on the matter. The analysis emphasizes that the ethnic diversity contained in contemporary nation-states represents a political challenge for “emerging democracies”, especially in Latin America.
