The electoral triumph of the indigenous movement and its presence in the new government of Ecuador is something new in the political scenario of Latin America. Nevertheless, the brief experience of government indicates weaknesses in the possibilities of these new indigenous organisations to manage the whole of the political process. For this reason, it is necessary to make a critical reading of the experience.
